Throughout the four-year term at High Point, students take an active part in their learning. It is High Point University’s signature experiential learning program that differentiates this collegiate experience from others.
Freshman year launches students into collaborative research and learning initiatives. The President’s Seminar on Life Skills is a required course for freshmen taught by the school’s world-renowned president, Dr. Nido R. Qubein. In the course, Dr. Qubein shares with students the habits, skills, values, and the practical intelligence that one must apply to succeed in an ever-changing world. HPU’s First Year Seminars are one-of-a-kind courses that introduce examples of sophisticated intellectual inquiry and life-long learning. Topics are broad and based on individual faculty members’ research and creative expertise.
Throughout sophomore year, students engage in internships and externships, working heavily with High Point’s Office of Career and Internship Services to fully utilize the school’s network of contacts, develop a résumé, create a strategy for the application process and practice tactics for successful interviewing.
Junior year introduces students to full-semester study abroad options, which are currently available through partnerships with prestigious universities in over 20 countries.
As seniors, High Point University students focus intently on civic engagement and service as they prepare to graduate with ambitions of not only success, but also significance. Students at High Point complete over 50,000 hours of community service annually and remain engaged in a life of learning and giving as High Point University alumni.
